Now, more and more white-collar workers like to buy a cup of coffee and throw away the paper cup after drinking it. This seemingly ordinary behavior has caused environmental problems that cannot be ignored. According to Sydney media reports, the City of Sydney government has introduced special measures to recycle coffee paper cups in a targeted manner to improve the environment.
Every year, more than 3.2 billion paper coffee cups are discarded in Australia. On average, every office worker throws away 20 paper cups every month. The City of Sydney said that because the inner wall of the paper cup is covered with a plastic waterproof film, it cannot be recycled and reused like other paper products. After they are discarded, they can only be sent to landfills and buried deep underground for disposal, but it takes about 214,000 years to completely decompose. In order to make better use of these paper cups, the Sydney City Council has united a waste recycling company to adopt new technology to recycle the cardboard part of the paper cups. Near commercial office buildings in cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, the Sydney City Council has set up trash bins for recycling coffee paper cups.
This coffee paper cup recycling project is temporarily in the trial operation stage, but it has been well received by the general public. After a 4-week trial of the trash can, 4278 paper cups were collected. Sydney Mayor Clover Moore said that before this, Australia did not have professional paper cup recycling technology. This recycling system will completely change the status quo. There are currently 780 professional recycling workers involved. This technology is expected to help the city of Sydney “digest” 25 million paper cups within a year.
